The aim of this workshop is to enable the practitioner to analyse their current practice and identify knowledge, strategies and skills that will improve outcome and quality of care in relation to patients with, or at risk of, pressure ulceration. The objectives of the course are:
• Compare/contrast the different causes of pressure ulceration, associated pathophysiology and their role within the management plan
• Determine the key principles that risk management tools offer to the prevention and management of pressure ulcers
• Examine pressure ulcer classification; wound assessment and infection control in relation to management options
• Examine the evidence for skin care, cleansing and treatment of incontinence
• Examine the evidence for repositioning; pressure relieving equipment and adjunctive therapies in the prevention and management of pressure ulcers.
