Description
This programme aims to enhance and develop the knowledge and skills required by healthcare professionals to educate and support the self management of people with diabetes. Topics will include the classification and diagnosis of type 2 diabetes, glucose targets and current pharmacological approaches to glycaemic management, challenges to medication management and practical skills required to support education and diabetes self-management.
Outline of programme:
- Classification and diagnosis of type 2 diabetes
- Glucose targets in type 2 diabetes
- Pharmacological approaches to glycaemic management reflecting best practice recommendations to include oral agents, GLP1 and insulin therapies
- Challenges to medication management in diabetes care – Hypoglycaemia, Hyperglycaemia, DKA in Type 2 Diabetes
- Practical Aspects of medication management including Glucose Testing, Injection Technique and Driving Guidelines
