Description

This three-day online course is for Nurses and Midwives who work in the area of chronic illness, mental health, maternity care, parent education, palliative care, old age care and want to support their patients by teaching them Mindful Breathing and Meditation Techniques.
 
If you embrace the holistic aspect of nursing care and keen to explore innovative ways of providing health care with the therapeutic use of mindfulness, then this course is for you. Mindfulness cultivates a stable healing presence that benefits patients and providers alike. Mindful Nurses/Midwives can teach their patients how to use breath as an anchor to bring the mind home to the body and experience more peace and calm.
 
Short Summary:
This course will cover in detail the work of Dr Jon Kabat Zinn (A Professor of Medicine & Molecular Biologist University of Massachusetts famous for his world-renowned MBSR Clinics). The focus will be on mindfulness and its underpinning psychology and its role in holistic health care. Participants will be invited to experience the effect of breathing in awareness on one’s sense of wellbeing. Therapeutic use of Mindfulness techniques such as turning towards the symptoms, pain, anger, fear, anxiety, depression, discomfort, instead of fighting the pain and wishing it goes away experiencing the pain as it is without adding or trying to subtract the pain. There will be integrated practice sessions in the course supervised by the teacher to train participants in leading mindful breathing and meditation sessions.
 
Self-compassion and compassion-based care will be explored through discussion amongst participants by sharing their experiences. Participants will gain the necessary skills, knowledge, attitude, and desire to support patients with chronic physical and mental illness.
 
Learning Outcomes-
 
1. Identify the fundamental principles underpinning mindfulness programme and importance of own personal practice.
2. Distinguish mindfulness based approach from other practices and services.
3. Organise a patient education programme based on mindful breathing and meditation.
4. List the eight attitudinal qualities of Mindfulness.
5. Display mindful communication while interacting with patients to provide compassion-based nursing care.
6. Critically analyse and evaluate the evidence-based practice in mindful nursing.
7. Assist individuals, families and groups achieve optimum health through therapeutic use of breathing and mindful meditation.
