Burnout is an important for nurses and midwives and is related to a decrease in occupational well-being and an increase in absenteeism, turnover and illness (Adriaenssens, De Gundt & Maes, 2015). Maslach (2011) argues that the prevention of burnout can be achieved by focusing on engagement, organisational assessment and the early detection of burnout. They key focus of this programme will be on the causes, definitions, measurement and interventions that can help create a more positive, fulfilling and engaging workplace.
