This live online 8-day programme which will commence on the 16th July 2021, will teach nurses and midwives how to take better care of themselves to live healthier, more adaptive lives.
What is Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction (MSBR)?
MBSR Program was developed by Dr Jon Kabat Zinn at the University of Massachusetts Medical Center in 1979 after experiencing a Meditation Retreat which led him to discover that Mind-Body practices can be beneficial for our Healthcare System.
The MBSR program was created for everyone regardless of age or health condition which included Mindfulness, Meditation and Yoga. Dr Jon's Program was started in a busy hospital where people were with maximum suffering. He wanted to keep this program simple and easy to understand so that it can be easily practised in day-to-day life. "Mindfulness means paying attention in a particular way on purpose, in the present moment, and non-judgementally". [Dr Jon Kabat Zinn]
Aim of the Course: To learn how to be more fully aware and present in each moment of life and experience a more enjoyable, vivid, and fulfilling life. It requires gently turning towards what is present, even when it is unpleasant and difficult and 'being with' whatever is there in the moment.
This can be challenging for some people, so you need to discuss with your MBSR Teacher if you are unsure if it is the right time for you to take the course.
This eight-week course is based upon the programme of Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction, developed in the United States by Dr Jon Kabat Zinn. It is also built up from our personal experiences of mindfulness practice and we hope that it will provide rich sources of inspiration for you. Over the eight sessions, we will develop a strong foundation of mindfulness.
What is mindfulness? Dr Jon Kabat-Zinn one of the founders of MBSR defines mindfulness as: "the awareness that unfolds as we pay attention, on purpose, in the present moment."
Benefits: According to Mindful Academy In recent years, meditation has been the subject of controlled clinical research. This suggests it may have beneficial effects, including stress reduction, relaxation, and improvements to the quality of life.
In the eight-week MBSR course, we support participants to:
    • Explore new possibilities
    • Cultivate observation
    • Grow compassion
    • Move to acceptance
    • Discover embodiment
This is experiential learning where participants are encouraged to acknowledge that the best teacher is the one inside of themselves.
This programme will take place for 2.5 hours on a Friday (commencing on 16/7/21) for 8 weeks plus a retreat day on Monday, 23 August 2021.   Please note these dates for your diary:
