Description

This course is an introduction to sociology of health and illness. This course examines the meaning and relationship health, disease, illness and sickness.  Impact of social inequality will also be explored along with other topics such as the sick role and the role of healthcare professionals.
 
By the end of the course participants will have an understanding and appreciation of
 
-   Sociology of health and illness
-   The difference and relationship between disease, illness and sickness
-   The role of health professionals in society
-   The ‘sick role’
-   Role of social determinants of health (class, gender, ethnicity)
