Description

In the UK 29% of pre-registration nursing students were found to have a specific learning difficulty (Wray et al, 2012). In Ireland 3.7% of nursing students in institutions of higher education have been identified as having a disability, including dyspraxia/dysgraphia (AHEAD, 2018). Greater understanding and appreciation of specific learning needs are the corner stone of the development and application of coping strategies to overcome disabilities. This workshop is aimed at nurses working in education, the clinical learning environment, nurse manager and occupational health nurses. The workshop will provide greater insight into the challenges faced by nurses with a specific learning difficulty and to explore support and coping strategies. The workshop is facilitated by Kerry Pace, Founder of Diverse-Learners, specialist teacher, advisory member of the teaching team, School of Nursing and Midwifery at Plymouth University, IAB member and reviewer for Nursing Education in Practice.
